Los Angeles, CA — Two Oregonians, Dustin Nehl and Jennifer Nehl, were arrested by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department after being caught impersonating firefighters in Southern California. The couple was spotted driving a fake fire truck in the Palisades Fire area, prompting suspicion from an LAPD patrol unit.
Upon closer inspection, it was revealed that the fire truck, marked with “Roaring River Fire” decals, was not associated with any real fire department. Additionally, the Nehls were wearing fake firefighting gear and attempting to enter an evacuation zone during the fire.
The suspects admitted to being in the evacuation zone at the time and confessed to purchasing the fire engine at an auction. Dustin Nehl, 31, has a criminal history, having previously pleaded guilty to crimes including arson and possession of a destructive device in 2017.
Both Dustin and Jennifer Nehl are now awaiting official charges, which may include impersonating government officials and unlawfully entering an evacuation zone.
