The Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Omereonye Solomon Chigozie, also known as Kolor Cabiek Ye, on charges of internet fraud and money laundering.
Chigozie appeared before Justice Maurine A. Oyetenu of the Federal High Court, Uyo, on Thursday, March 20, 2025, facing two counts of fraudulent impersonation, possession of fraudulent messages, and obtaining money under false pretenses.
The Charges Against Chigozie
1️⃣ Impersonation: Between 2019 and 2024, Chigozie allegedly posed as “Kolor Cabiek Ye” on Facebook to deceive and defraud victims. This act violates Section 22(2)(b)(i) of the Cybercrime Act 2024 and is punishable under Section 22(2)(b)(iv).
2️⃣ Fraudulent Transactions: He reportedly received $1,500 from his victims, money suspected to be proceeds of crime. This offence falls under Section 18(2)(d) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, with penalties outlined in Section 18(3).
Court Proceedings & Next Steps
After Chigozie entered his plea, prosecuting counsel Enobong Ubokudom requested a trial date and his remand at the Uyo Correctional Centre. Defense counsel Ikwere Davies did not oppose the request.
Justice Oyetenu subsequently adjourned the trial to May 22, 2025, and ordered Chigozie’s remand until his court appearance.
