The Buxar Police arrested Om Prakash Singh and Karan Yadav late Saturday night in connection with the Ahiyapur triple murder, a violent incident that stemmed from a land dispute involving sand dumping. A third individual has been detained for questioning, though their identity remains undisclosed.
According to Buxar SP Shubham Arya, the violence erupted after a confrontation on Friday evening between two local groups near a canal in Ahiyapur village, under Rajpur police station. The altercation turned deadly around 5 a.m. on Saturday when a clash involving physical assault and gunfire led to three fatalities on one side. Two others were critically injured and rushed to Varanasi Trauma Centre.
A First Information Report (FIR) was filed at Rajpur Police Station based on a written complaint. The FIR named 19 individuals, including Santosh Yadav (former Vice Chairman of Buxar District Board) and Manoj Singh (former Mukhiya of Rasen Panchayat), along with three unidentified persons.
Taking serious note of the incident, the police formed a special task force comprising the Divisional Intelligence Unit (DIU) and personnel from the Rajpur Police Station, led by SDPO Buxar. Intensive raids resulted in the arrest of the two named suspects.
In a parallel disciplinary action, the village chowkidar, Ritesh Pandey, was suspended for dereliction of duty. SP Arya cited negligence and failure to report Friday’s initial altercation, which may have led to the escalation into deadly violence.
Investigations are ongoing to track and arrest the remaining suspects.
