Olaniyan Gbenga Amos Sentenced to 63 Years for Investment Fraud

Oyo Court Convicts Olaniyan Amos and Firm for Defrauding Investors

Justice Olusola Adetujoye of the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan convicted Olaniyan Gbenga Amos on Monday, April 28, 2025, sentencing him to 63 years in prison for multiple charges of investment fraud. Amos, 35, was found guilty alongside his company, Detorrid Heritage Investment Limited, following prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The case centered around 30 counts of fraud, including obtaining money under false pretenses. Amos and his firm were accused of defrauding individuals by falsely promising high returns on investment through a scheme involving the Crime Alert Security Network. One such instance involved obtaining N995,000 from Bada Titilope with the false promise of a 30% return within six weeks, a representation known to be false.

Amos pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him, leading to a lengthy legal battle. The EFCC presented evidence and witnesses, eventually securing a conviction after Amos filed a “no case submission,” which was rejected by the court.

On April 28, 2025, Justice Adetujoye sentenced Amos to seven years for each of eight counts, with the sentences to run concurrently. However, Amos was acquitted of several other counts. The court also ordered Amos to restitute the victims of his fraud.

This conviction is not Amos’ first foray into legal trouble. He was sentenced to 75 years in December 2023 for similar crimes by Justice Bayo Taiwo, and he faces ongoing trials for other charges at the Federal High Courts in Ibadan, where he is implicated in defrauding investors of over N1 billion.
