Odisha Vigilance officials apprehended Kunja Bihari Rout, a Male Health Worker cum Clerk at Muniguda Community Health Centre (CHC), for accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000. This payment was the second and final instalment of a total Rs 6,000 bribe demanded to issue a birth certificate.
According to sources, Rout had earlier accepted Rs 3,000 from a poor farmer but continued to demand the remaining amount to process the certificate for the farmer’s son. Harassed by Rout’s persistent demands, the complainant sought help from Vigilance authorities.
Acting on the complaint, a trap was laid at Rout’s office, where he was caught red-handed while receiving the remaining Rs 3,000. The entire bribe amount was recovered and seized.
In parallel, Vigilance officials conducted searches at two of Rout’s premises to investigate possible disproportionate assets. A case has been registered under Koraput Vigilance Police Station Case No. 27/2025, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is ongoing.
