A 25-year-old man, identified as Sunil Nag, was arrested on Friday in Odisha’s Sambalpur district for the shocking sexual assault and killing of a cow, police said.

Nag, who worked as a tractor driver in the Ainthapali area, allegedly committed the crime on Wednesday night in Bhalupali village on the outskirts of Sambalpur town. According to police sources, he lured a stray cow to the gate of a residential property, tied it with a towel, and assaulted it. The animal later died due to its injuries.

The incident came to light when CCTV cameras installed outside the house recorded the entire act. Based on the footage, the homeowner filed a written complaint with Ainthapali police, leading to Nag’s arrest late Thursday night.

Police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

The disturbing nature of the crime has triggered widespread anger in the community, with locals demanding stronger enforcement of animal protection laws and harsher punishment for offenders.
