HOUSTON (KIAH) — Three fugitives were arrested at a southwest Houston hotel last week as part of an ongoing mail fraud investigation involving stolen identities and financial documents.

Federal postal inspectors and Houston police apprehended Gilbert Ochoa, Ashley Pitones, and Daniel Guasco at the Candlewood Suites Hotel, located at 11230 Southwest Freeway. The arrests stemmed from a U.S. Postal Inspection Service operation targeting mail theft and identity fraud.

At the time of the arrest, Ochoa and Pitones were found in possession of roughly 1,000 pieces of stolen mail, including credit and debit cards, checks, IDs, and other personally identifiable information belonging to numerous victims, authorities said.

Investigators also confirmed that all three suspects had active warrants in Harris County for unrelated charges. The Postal Inspection Service stated that its investigation remains active and that additional charges are expected.

This case is part of a broader federal effort to combat rising mail theft and financial fraud.
