The Lagos State Police Command has taken custody of Obi Obieze, a fugitive native doctor from Enugu State, who was arrested by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) while attempting to flee the country.
Obieze, also known as Ezeani and E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show, is accused of multiple ritual killings in Umuojor village, Ezeagu LGA of Enugu State. His arrest came on Wednesday around 2 p.m. at the Gbaji checkpoint on the Badagry-Seme Expressway, where NIS officers identified him during routine checks.
The suspect had reportedly escaped Enugu the night before via a night bus to Mile 2, Lagos, and was en route to the Seme border on a motorcycle when he was caught. Officers recognized him as the suspect from a viral video linked to ritual activities and a recent kidnapping case involving a 13-year-old girl.
Enugu residents have welcomed the arrest with celebration, demanding a public trial for Obieze, who was declared wanted by police weeks ago.
Investigations had previously led to the discovery of decomposing bodies, including that of a pregnant woman, hidden in a pit sealed with concrete at one of his properties. The Enugu State Police also confirmed the arrest of three accomplices—Uche Kingsley Agumba, 33; Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi, 36; and Ejike Odinwankpa, 38—in connection to the abduction.
Obieze, considered a flight risk, was transported to the Lagos State Police Command in heavy restraints on Friday and handed over to Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh. He will be transferred to Enugu to face charges. Reporters were denied access to him in line with the Federal Government’s directive banning the parade of suspects.
