Oakland Man Charged in Construction Site Tool Theft

Stolen tools recovered; suspect released on $1K bond

OAKLAND, Md. — The Garrett County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of an Oakland man in connection with the theft of tools from a construction site in McHenry.

According to a press release, deputies began investigating on April 28, following reports of numerous tools stolen from a construction site on Deep Creek Highland Road.

A search and seizure warrant was executed on May 1 at a location along Maryland Highway, where detectives recovered the stolen tools as part of the ongoing investigation.

The suspect, Stephen Mitchell Jones, age 48, was identified, and an arrest warrant was issued.

On May 14, deputies located and arrested Jones. He was booked into the Garrett County Detention Center and later released after posting a $1,000 bond.

Authorities have not disclosed the total value of the stolen tools. The investigation is ongoing.
