DEBARY, Florida — Shaun Burstein, the executive director of Arya Senior Living in DeBary, has been arrested for allegedly stealing jewelry from a resident. Volusia County detectives are investigating to determine whether there are additional victims.
The case began after an engagement ring was reported missing from a resident’s room. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Burstein entering the unoccupied room, accessing the area near the jewelry box, and leaving. Additional video captured a separate attempt to open the box, which he abandoned after noticing the camera.
Detectives reviewed pawn shop records and confirmed that Burstein sold multiple pieces of jewelry, including the stolen engagement ring, which was placed on hold. Pawn documentation and fingerprint evidence linked Burstein to the stolen items.
During questioning, Burstein admitted to taking jewelry from multiple residents and selling the pieces at local pawn shops. Records indicate he sold more than 93 pieces of jewelry between September 23 and December 30, 2025.
The 45-year-old Sanford resident surrendered to authorities and faces charges including dealing in stolen property and theft from a person 65 years of age or older. The investigation is ongoing, and only one victim has been identified at this time.
