On Saturday evening, the Nurpur police arrested a couple involved in drug peddling after a successful raid in Chhanni village. Acting on reliable information, a police team seized 15.19 grams of heroin and Rs 24,700 in drug money from the possession of Parshotam Lal, also known as Tona, and his partner Savita.
The couple has been booked under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) at the Damtal police station. After being presented in court on Sunday, they were remanded into police custody for further investigation.
Nurpur SP Ashok Ratan confirmed that the accused were habitual offenders with a history of criminal activities. Parshotam Lal, a known criminal, had previous charges including a theft case registered in Nurpur in March 2009. He also faced two NDPS Act cases in Pathankot and Dinanagar in 2009 and 2014, respectively.
Savita had been arrested twice by Indora police for drug peddling. Her first arrest under the NDPS Act occurred on November 2, 2018, and after being released on bail, she was caught again with contraband by Indora police on December 28, 2018.
The police are continuing their investigations into the couple’s illegal activities, as they face charges for their involvement in drug trafficking.
