The Nurpur police in Kangra district made a significant breakthrough on Saturday night in their ongoing battle against narcotics. A special operation led to the arrest of three drug peddlers and the recovery of 6.044 kilograms of charas.
According to SP Ashok Rattan, a police team stopped an Alto car with a temporary registration near Kandhal Meinankabadi for inspection. A search of the vehicle revealed the contraband, which was in the possession of the three occupants.
The arrested have been identified as Anu Kumar, Suresh Kumar, and Ram Lal, all residents of Mandi district. A case has been registered at Nurpur police station under Sections 20 and 29 of the NDPS Act. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the source and network behind the drug trafficking.
This seizure forms part of Nurpur police’s intensified efforts against drug crimes in the region. This year alone, they have registered 74 NDPS cases and seized over:
1.53 kg heroin/chitta
23.154 kg charas
23.57 kg poppy husk (chura post)
344 cannabis plants
Additionally, movable and immovable properties worth Rs 24.68 crore have been attached, and Rs 1.27 crore recovered as drug money.
So far, 122 individuals — 112 men and 10 women — have been arrested in drug-related cases in Nurpur this year. The police remain committed to dismantling drug networks and prosecuting offenders.
