Nur Islam, Nazrul Hussain Held in Rs71 Cr Assam Drug Seizure

STF Assam Seizes Yaba Tablets and Heroin from Two Vehicles

In a major anti-narcotics operation on Friday, Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) seized heroin and methamphetamine tablets worth a staggering Rs71 crore during two separate raids in Kamrup district. Two individuals — Nur Islam (34) and Nazrul Hussain alias Ali Hussain (22) — have been arrested in connection with the case.

Acting on secret intelligence, STF officers, led by STF chief Parthasarathi Mahanta and Additional SP Kalyan Pathak, launched operations in the Amingaon area. They intercepted a truck and a Hyundai car, both suspected of transporting narcotics from a neighboring state.

A detailed search led to the recovery of:

2,70,000 Yaba (methamphetamine) tablets worth Rs67 crore from the truck.

520 grams of heroin, hidden in 40 soap boxes, worth Rs4 crore from the car.

According to officials, both the Yaba tablets and heroin were smuggled from Myanmar, a known hub for narcotics trafficking. The drugs were intended for illegal distribution in Bangladesh and other parts of India.

The arrested individuals, Nur Islam and Nazrul Hussain, both drivers of the vehicles involved, have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Authorities believe the drugs entered India through Myanmar’s unfenced 1,643 km border with the northeastern states — particularly through Mizoram, which has become a major transit point due to its proximity to Chin State, a hotspot for smuggling.

Further investigation is ongoing to trace the larger network involved in this cross-border drug trafficking operation.
