In a significant breakthrough, the Chandmari Police in Guwahati recovered a large cache of stolen items during a late-night raid at a dump yard near Swagat Hospital in Maligaon. Two individuals — Nur Alam and Binod Rai alias Guddu Babu — have been arrested in connection with the case.
The seized items include a considerable volume of brass and bronze utensils and numerous copper wires, with police estimating their total worth in the several lakhs of rupees. As part of the operation, law enforcement authorities sealed all entry points of the dump yard before launching the raid.
During the interrogation, Nur Alam confessed to his role in a theft conspiracy, admitting that he received and stored stolen materials from various sources. He also revealed that he sold the stolen goods to a scrapyard in Maligaon, owned by Binod Rai.
Acting on the leads provided by Alam, police conducted a follow-up raid at the scrapyard and successfully recovered a substantial quantity of stolen items. Further investigation is underway to trace other individuals involved in the theft ring and identify the origins of the materials.
Police officials stated that efforts are being intensified to dismantle the wider network behind the theft and trafficking of stolen materials in the city.
