MIAMI — A 45-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing multiple gold links from a broken Cuban link bracelet at the jewelry store where she worked, Miami police reported.

According to an arrest report, Nubia Milena Torres-Cubillos, a Cuban national residing in Miami, was caught on surveillance video stealing several links from a $104,500 Cuban link bracelet at an unnamed store.

Police stated the thefts took place between June and August. During this time, Torres-Cubillos concealed the stolen links inside a box she had placed on a shelf, even repositioning it to reduce visibility.

On June 26, Torres-Cubillos was seen wrapping some links in paper, taking them to her desk, then slipping them into her pocket before heading to the restroom. The report noted she “appeared to walk unnaturally in an effort to avoid the links making noise.”

On July 3, she was observed moving boxes under the guise of organizing, but was actually relocating the box containing the stolen links. Later, during a break, she entered a co-worker’s office, removed the links from the box, briefly placed them on the desk, and then slid them into her purse.

Authorities confirmed two of the stolen links were pawned — one on June 28 for $3,500 and another on July 5 for $1,800.

The investigation revealed Torres-Cubillos also stole and pawned other valuable items from her employer, including multiple 18K yellow gold Van Cleef-style bracelets, a 10K gold tennis bracelet, an 18K yellow gold necklace with an emerald stone, and an 18K rose gold Van Cleef bracelet, with amounts ranging from $250 to $755.

Torres-Cubillos was arrested on charges of grand theft, organized scheme to defraud, being a secondhand dealer without verifying ownership, and dealing in stolen property.

At her arrest, she invoked her right to counsel, police said.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Torres-Cubillos was held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $40,000 bond.
