A notorious vehicle lifter, who had been stealing two-wheelers across Adilabad and Nirmal districts, was apprehended by police on Saturday. Authorities recovered 12 motorcycles worth Rs4 lakh from him.
According to SP Akhil Mahajan, Chouhan Shravan Kumar alias Ramesh of Kota (B) village was caught during a routine vehicle check while moving suspiciously in town.
During interrogation, Shravan confessed that he committed the thefts to fund a lavish lifestyle through quick money schemes. He admitted to selling the stolen bikes to 12 individuals across Adilabad district and revealed that his targets included bikes parked outside RIMS-Adilabad and other government hospitals in Nirmal district.
Police have also booked a dozen people for allegedly purchasing stolen bikes from Shravan Kumar. The accused include: Shaik Sai, Matta Chandar Singh, Chouhan Praveen, Pawar Ravi, Bodasu Srinivas, Shivaratri Naresh, Deshmukh Baban, Chouhan Dinesh, Chouhan Mohan Singh, Katakwar Ram, Shaik Afan, and Bodasu Venu.
Authorities continue to investigate the case and are probing if more stolen vehicles were sold to other buyers.
