In a breakthrough operation, Rana Pratap Nagar Police successfully arrested Harsh Ramteke, also known as Ikka, a notorious mobile thief, on March 27. Ramteke, originally from Tiroda, Gondia, had been evading capture by shifting to Nagpur. He was apprehended after a forgotten SIM card from one of his previously stolen mobile phones was found in his pocket.
The arrest was made possible through a cyber-tracking operation. Ramteke made a critical mistake by switching on one of the stolen mobile phones briefly, which led police to track his location via the phone tower. The trail led them to Wathoda, where Ramteke was arrested.
Police recovered eight stolen mobile phones from his possession. According to Senior Inspector Pankaj Bondse, Ramteke had a habit of sneaking into homes in areas like Gorle Layout, Gayatri Nagar, and other slum areas, targeting sleeping residents. “He would even take phones placed beside pillows,” Bondse added.
Further investigations are underway to link Ramteke to other thefts, with authorities working to return the stolen phones to their rightful owners.
