Udupi police have arrested Kabir Hussain, alias Kabir, a 46-year-old notorious member of the Garuda gang, following a preventive detention order issued under the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (Goonda Act).
Kabir, a resident of Kampa Kauroor village in Karkala, has been involved in criminal activities since 2005. He is implicated in 17 cases, including murder, attempted murder, robbery, extortion, theft, cattle theft, and assault on government officials. While convicted in two cases and acquitted in eight, others are under trial or investigation.
Kabir’s criminal activities span across Udupi district police stations — Karkala Town, Hiriyadka, Padubidri, Manipal, Shirva, and Kaup — as well as Sringeri and Koppa in Chikkamagaluru district, and Venoor and Surathkal in Dakshina Kannada district.
Following his arrest, Kabir was shifted to the Central Prison in Mysuru. Authorities continue to investigate his involvement with the infamous Garuda gang.
