KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Norris Deshane Baker, 35, is facing multiple charges in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Nov. 4, 2024, in Kalamazoo.

Officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) found Paris Anton Powe, 34, dead in a vehicle on Egleston Avenue near Reed Court from gunshot wounds. Authorities said the incident stemmed from a dice game at Interfaith Homes, where Powe had won money from Baker.

According to court documents, after the dice game, Powe, Baker, and another man, Reginald Noble, got into a vehicle. While Powe was driving, Baker allegedly fired several rounds from the backseat, striking both Powe and himself. The vehicle stopped, and Baker reportedly took cash from Powe’s pockets while Noble pretended to be dead.

Surveillance video captured gunfire and showed an individual exiting the rear passenger seat, believed to be Baker. A woman who knew Baker told detectives that he admitted to the shooting, saying, “I f**ed up… I shot him, look on the news.”*

Baker fled to Texas following the incident and was arrested by Harris County authorities on Dec. 20, 2024.

He is charged with:

Homicide – Open murder

Felony firearm (five counts)

Assault with intent to murder

Armed robbery (two counts)

Firearm possession by a prohibited person

Baker is currently in custody with the Michigan Department of Corrections, and the investigation is ongoing.
