Naharlagun Police arrested a postgraduate student of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), Norbu Dawa Sona, within 24 hours of the murder of a 16-year-old student. Sona has confessed to committing the crime.
The victim, Nitul Nath, a Class IX student at Global Academy and son of Balaram Nath, the cook to the Itanagar SP, was found dead at his residence in Dokum Colony, Naharlagun, around 8 a.m. on Friday. Nath was found partially clothed, wearing only black half-pants, with four deep injury marks on his face, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp weapon.
A special investigation team led by Naharlagun SP Nyelam Nega and supervised by SDPO Rishi Longdo was formed immediately. Forensic experts collected evidence from the scene to assist the investigation.
SP Nega stated, “Based on initial leads, police detained Sona. During interrogation, he admitted to murdering Nath on the night of August 21 while under the influence of intoxicants.”
Investigations revealed that Sona and Nath shared a close friendship. However, the quarrel occurred when Sona discovered a used pouch of ganja with Nath. The argument escalated, resulting in the attack that tragically ended the teenager’s life.
