Nomakhosazana Macingwane Arrested in Johannesburg Property Scam

Petu Estate CEO faces fraud charges over fake property sales

by Sophia Bennett

Nomakhosazana Petunia Macingwane, 55, CEO and director of Petu Estate, was arrested in Johannesburg for allegedly defrauding individuals who believed they were purchasing legitimate properties.

The arrest was confirmed by Capt Tintswalo Sibeko, who said Macingwane is scheduled to appear in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court on February 18, 2026.

This is not her first arrest related to fraud. In November 2023, Macingwane was arrested over an alleged housing scam and released on bail; that case is set for pre-trial on April 1, 2026.

Investigations revealed that Macingwane, although presenting herself as a lawyer, is not registered with the Legal Practice Council. She is only registered with the Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority. Acting as a lawyer without proper admission constitutes misrepresentation, a criminal offense.

At least three victims reported losing funds while never receiving the properties. One couple paid R700,000 for a property in Bramley, while another individual, Tshegofatso Namane, paid R250,000 for a house in Protea Glen, which later appeared for sale by another seller.

Authorities urge additional victims to report to their nearest police station. Macingwane has denied theft allegations and attempted to block media reporting on the case through her attorneys, Ndlovu Attorneys.
