Eight Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by Noida police on Thursday in a crackdown known as ‘Operation Pehchan’ at Salarpur village, Gautam Buddha Nagar District, Uttar Pradesh. Authorities recovered several fake Aadhar and PAN cards from the suspects.
This arrest is part of a broader effort to combat illegal immigration. In a separate operation in Mumbai, a total of 201 Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested this year, with 131 FIRs filed against them. Out of those apprehended, 20 individuals have been deported, and the documents of five to seven others were found to be genuine, leading to their direct repatriation to Bangladesh.
Additionally, seven Bangladeshi nationals, including four women, were arrested in Mumbai on Friday for living in India without valid documentation. The suspects, identified as Sohang Ashir Mulla, Zahidul Islam Imul, Noyam Afzal Hussain Sheikh, Alamin Sheikh, Suma Jahigir Alam Tutul, Tawmina Akhtar Raju, and Salma Moksad Ali, had been residing in the Mahul and Chembur areas for nearly five years. During questioning, they admitted to being in India without proper documentation since March 2020. They have been charged under the Foreigners Act and the Passport Act.
Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh, a Bangladeshi Hindu couple and their four-year-old child were detained for entering India illegally via Nepal. The couple, who had arrived in Nepal on January 28 with visas valid until February 10, crossed into India and sought shelter in a village known for housing displaced Bengali families. Police were alerted by intelligence agencies, and investigations into the family’s movements are ongoing. The couple reportedly fled Bangladesh due to increased persecution of minorities following changes in the government.
