The Noida Cybercrime Police recently arrested Achal Verma, who is accused of orchestrating a large-scale online investment scam that defrauded a woman of Rs78 lakh.

The victim was contacted through WhatsApp, where she was enticed into an online investment scheme. She was promised massive returns for completing various online tasks. Unfortunately, the victim transferred Rs78 lakh to multiple accounts linked to Verma.

Following a tip-off, Noida police swiftly tracked down Achal Verma, who was apprehended from Hoshiarpur village in Sector 52 on Friday night. The investigation revealed that Verma used false promises to systematically defraud the victim.

In 2023, after the woman filed a complaint, the cybercrime team gathered intelligence that led to the identification and capture of Verma.

Preeti Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Cybercrime, mentioned, “The accused lured the victim with false promises, and our team acted quickly based on the gathered intelligence. We have also frozen the fraudulent funds.”

This arrest comes as a significant step in combating online investment scams, with police urging the public to stay cautious when engaging in online transactions.
