LAREDO, Texas – A Laredo man has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting on Primavera Lane, police said.

Noe Cantu, 35, was charged after allegedly shooting 49-year-old Fernando Hinojosa multiple times in the street near 4700 Primavera Lane on Monday, Dec. 29, according to the Laredo Police Department.

Officers responded to a shooting call at 8:25 p.m. and found Hinojosa dead at the scene. Cantu remained at the location and reportedly told police he had shot Hinojosa with a handgun. The weapon was recovered as evidence.

Authorities said there is no known relationship between Cantu and Hinojosa. Some residents in the area reportedly knew the victim. Police are investigating an allegation that Hinojosa may have been committing a theft at the time of the shooting.

After consulting with the District Attorney’s Office, officials determined there was enough evidence to charge Cantu with murder. The incident marks the ninth homicide in Laredo in 2025. The investigation is ongoing.
