The Nizamabad police have arrested six individuals, including a woman, for allegedly murdering her husband and attempting to pass it off as a natural death. Authorities said the woman conspired with her paramour and hired assailants to carry out the killing.
The victim, 35-year-old P Ramesh, was declared dead on December 20 last year by his wife, P Soumya, and his body was hastily buried. Suspicion arose when Ramesh’s sister-in-law, Anusha, filed a complaint, and Ramesh’s husband, working in Israel, urged a thorough investigation.
Following the complaint, police exhumed Ramesh’s body, and a post-mortem confirmed it was murder. During questioning, Soumya admitted to conspiring with her paramour, Dilip, after Ramesh had begun suspecting her character.
Investigators explained the murder plan:
Soumya allegedly gave Ramesh sleeping pills.
While he slept, Dilip and four others smothered him with a towel and pillow.
Police said there had been a previous failed attempt to kill Ramesh, staged as a hit-and-run. A case had been registered at the time, but Ramesh was unaware it was part of a larger conspiracy.
Dilip reportedly promised the hired assailants Rs35,000 for executing the murder.
Of the seven accused in the case, six have been arrested:
P Soumya
Dilip
E Abhishek
B Jitender
K Sriram
Ramavath Rakesh
Investigation is ongoing, and authorities are looking into the involvement of the remaining accused.
