The Bengaluru police have arrested 26-year-old unemployed graduate Nitesh Subbu for allegedly stealing valuables worth over Rs60 lakh from a high-rise apartment in Electronics City, where he resided with his sister.
Seemant Kumar Singh, Bengaluru Police Commissioner, announced the seizure of 15.79 grams of diamond jewellery, 621 grams of gold ornaments, 56.2 grams of silver, and Rs28,000 in cash from the accused. The estimated value of the recovered items totals approximately Rs60.46 lakh.
The theft came to light when a resident noticed the broken front door of the flat belonging to 62-year-old academic Suresh Iyer, who works in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The couple frequently traveled and the apartment had been locked for several days.
On June 4, Iyer’s wife received a call from a neighbor about the broken door. She immediately informed her nephew, who visited the site, found the valuables missing, and lodged a complaint with Hebbagodi Police on June 5.
Investigations revealed that Subbu, whose sister lives in an adjacent block, had been closely observing the professor’s routine visits and used his familiarity with the building’s layout to plan the burglary. CCTV footage showed a man in a T-shirt and shorts suspiciously roaming the apartment complex, later identified as Subbu.
The police are continuing their investigation and taking further action against the accused.
