In two separate incidents in Kerala, police have arrested two individuals in connection with thefts at a supermarket and a bakery, using CCTV footage and call records as key evidence.
Nisman Kabeer, 27, of Mattancherry, was arrested for a burglary at a supermarket near Chakkanattu temple on Shrampikkal road, Thoppumpady. The theft occurred around 1:30 am on Thursday. Police said Kabeer broke open the shutter locks, stole Rs7,500 in cash, a Rs12,000 mobile phone, and chocolates and cosmetics worth Rs2,500. He also damaged a computer monitor using a knife, bringing the total loss to approximately Rs26,500.
The investigation team, relying on scientific methods, including call detail analysis and CCTV footage, successfully tracked and arrested Kabeer. In a brazen move, the accused allegedly called the shop owner post-theft and threatened to set the shop ablaze if a complaint was filed.
In a separate case, Ajay, 24, from Balussery, Kozhikode, was arrested for stealing from a bakery in Edathala. The incident took place around 1 pm on Friday, during a lunch break, when Ajay opened the partially closed front shutter and took cash from the collection box.
Both suspects are now in custody, and further proceedings are underway.
