In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Amritsar Rural Police seized a total of 3.78 kg of heroin in two separate incidents near Attari.
The first arrest took place when officers intercepted Nirvail Singh, a resident of Attari, who was reportedly on his way to deliver 2.948 kg of heroin to a customer. Acting on a tip-off, police set up a checkpoint along the Defence Drain and apprehended him while he rode a motorcycle (PB-02-ET-4417). Alongside the heroin, packing material, a mobile phone, and the motorcycle were seized. Preliminary investigations indicate the narcotics may have been smuggled from Pakistan using drones.
In a second operation, police recovered an additional 840 grams of heroin from a black polythene bag lying on the roadside near Daoke village, close to the border.
The cumulative seizure of 3.788 kg of heroin is considered one of the largest in the region this year. A case has been registered under Sections 21(C), 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act, and further investigations are ongoing to trace the sources of the drugs and identify other members of the trafficking network.
