In a breakthrough for the Delhi Police, Nirmal Malik, a domestic servant, was arrested in Bengaluru for his involvement in a high-profile burglary in Defence Colony. The burglary occurred last year, with gold jewellery and cash worth approximately Rs 80 lakh stolen from a residence.
The theft was reported on December 26, following a PCR call about the incident in Block B of Defence Colony. Initial investigations revealed that Nirmal had been working as a domestic help at the house for just 12 days before the crime. He had carefully observed the family’s routine and learned that they were going on vacation from December 23-28. This gave him the opportunity to plan the burglary.
On the day of the crime, Nirmal enlisted the help of his associate, Dharmendra Dass, and together they broke into the house, looted the valuables, and fled. However, Nirmal vanished after the crime, switching off his phone and evading the police. Investigators traced his movements through call details, eventually uncovering his links to Odisha.
Further investigation revealed that both Nirmal and Dass were from Odisha and lived in Chirag Dilli. After months of tracing, Dharmendra Dass was arrested in March at Ishwarpur in Balasore, Odisha, with assistance from the local police.
Nirmal was eventually tracked down in Bengaluru, where he was working as a cook. Acting on intelligence inputs, the police laid a trap and arrested him. During interrogation, Nirmal confessed to orchestrating the burglary.
The police conducted raids in Nilagiri, Balasore, and recovered a significant portion of the stolen goods. The case has been a major breakthrough in cracking down on criminal networks operating across states.
