In a significant anti-drug operation, Nirjuli Police seized 2 kilograms of suspected cannabis and arrested a woman in connection with drug peddling in the P-Sector area near the Poultry Farm on Tuesday evening.
Police received credible information about illegal ganja sales in the locality and promptly conducted a raid around 7 pm. The operation was led by Inspector Tadu Hassang, Officer-in-Charge of Nirjuli Police Station.
During the search, officers recovered approximately 2 kg of suspected cannabis, packed in pouches, from the residence of Smt. Pronoda Nath (55), wife of late Gojen Sondo Nath. Pronoda Nath is a native of Madhukushi village, under Rongia Police Station in Kamrup district of Assam, and currently resides in Nirjuli’s P-Sector.
Following the recovery, a case was registered at Nirjuli Police Station (Case No. 98/2025) under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused was taken into custody for further investigation.
Superintendent of Police, ICR, Naharlagun, Dr. Nyelam Nega, urged the public to assist law enforcement by sharing credible information about drug peddling and substance abuse in their communities.
Authorities confirmed that further investigation is ongoing, and strict legal action will be taken as per the provisions of the NDPS Act.
