In a major breakthrough under the ongoing anti-drug operation ‘Operation Dawn 2.0’, the Nirjuli and Papu Hills Police arrested three suspected drug peddlers and seized a total of 51.45 grams of suspected heroin during two separate operations on Saturday.
The first operation, led by Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo and a team from the Nirjuli Police Station, took place during a routine naka checking at Dikrong Colony. Two suspects on a two-wheeler, identified as Almaz Ali (20), a resident of Chirang district, and Ajaharul Islam (21), a resident of Lakhimpur district, both from Assam, were intercepted.
During a personal search, the police recovered 12 vials and one tobacco container containing suspected heroin, weighing 30.42 grams, Mihin Gambo, Superintendent of Police, informed in a statement on Sunday.
In a parallel operation, Papu Hills Police acted on intelligence about drug-related activity near the Railway Station in Tarajuli. A swift operation led by Inspector Torum Mai and his team resulted in the arrest of Roshidul Hoque (27), originally from North Lakhimpur, Assam, and currently residing in Niti Colony, Yupia-II.
During the search, police found five vials of suspected heroin on Hoque’s person. After interrogation, Hoque revealed the location of a hidden stash in Yupia-II, where police recovered an additional 11 vials, bringing the total amount of contraband seized to 21.03 grams.
Two separate cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Nirjuli and Papu Hills Police Stations, respectively.
