Nine individuals, including eight women, have been arrested in connection with an interstate child trafficking racket spanning across the city, Gujarat, and Karnataka. A four-month-old girl, who had been sold for Rs 5 lakh to a couple in Karwar, Karnataka, was successfully rescued by the authorities.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Sulochana Suresh Kamble (45), Mira Rajaram Yadav (40), Yogesh Bhoir (37), Roshni Ghosh (34), Sandhya Rajput (48), Madina alias Munni Imam Chavan (44), Tainaaz Shahin Chauhan (19), Baby Moinuddin Tamboli (50), and Manisha Sunny Yadav (32), the latter being the biological mother of the rescued infant.
The individuals involved in the trafficking operation hail from various regions, including Dadar and Sewri in Mumbai, Diva, Vadodara, and Karwar. They are employed in various roles such as wedding planners, caregivers, and hospital aides. Authorities suspect the involvement of a gynaecologist and a nurse from Karnataka in the racket, adding another layer to the investigation.
The rescue operation was a significant step in addressing child trafficking, and further investigations are ongoing to identify the full extent of the network and bring all those responsible to justice.
