DAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. (WFIE/Gray News) – A woman is facing multiple charges in Kentucky after allegedly stealing a police cruiser, leading authorities on a high-speed, multi-state chase while wearing a motorcycle helmet and brandishing a sword.
The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as 31-year-old Nina Devillez. She is charged in Kentucky with evading police, criminal trespass, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
The incident began Monday morning when Warrick County Dispatch in Indiana received a report of a reckless driver on State Road 62. A Chandler police officer attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect fled.
After crashing her car into a ditch in Chandler, Indiana, Devillez reportedly exited the vehicle wearing a motorcycle helmet and began waving a sword at the officer. She was then shot at least once by the officer, according to Indiana State Police.
Despite her injuries, Devillez allegedly jumped into the officer’s patrol car and fled, sparking a high-speed chase that reached over 120 mph. Authorities lost track of the stolen cruiser until it was spotted traveling south on US 231.
The chase crossed into Kentucky via the William Natcher Bridge. Devillez ultimately crashed the stolen vehicle into an open field off US-60 near Terminal Road. She attempted to flee on foot but was eventually tased and taken into custody.
Officials say Devillez suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and was bleeding heavily when apprehended. She is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital and remains in custody.
Once released from the hospital, she will be transferred to the Daviess County Detention Center.
Court records reveal this is not Devillez’s first run-in with the law. In November, she was charged with seven felonies in Lawrence County, Indiana, including attempted murder, battery, and criminal confinement.
