Indian authorities have arrested two Nigerian nationals, Chukwu Umeh and Victor Onuwala, in separate drug trafficking raids conducted in Delhi and Maharashtra, with narcotics worth over Rs 12 crore seized.
According to Indian media, 36-year-old Chukwu Umeh was apprehended last Friday in Delhi along with 33-year-old Ugandan national Humphrey Muwong. The operation was conducted under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, India’s zero-tolerance anti-drug campaign.
During the search, police recovered 700 grams of high-grade smack/chitta, valued at over Rs 1 crore. The case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Investigations revealed that Umeh and Muwong were acting under the direction of another Nigerian, Dagri Jean Marc, believed to be operating from Africa. Marc previously lived in India and had built a drug trafficking network based in Tilak Nagar, recruiting foreign students enrolled in private universities as operatives.
In a separate case, Victor Onuwala was caught with 22 kilograms of mephedrone worth around Rs 11 crore in Evershine City, Vasai East, Maharashtra, last Saturday.
These arrests highlight the growing presence of international drug syndicates operating within India, using foreign nationals to smuggle and distribute narcotics. Police continue their efforts to track down the wider network and collaborators within the country.
