The Anti-Narcotic-cum-Special Operation Cell of the Ropar range has arrested Augustine Okwudili, a Nigerian national, with a significant haul of narcotics and drug money. Authorities recovered 255 grams of cocaine, 10.25 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy) pills, and Rs 2 lakh in cash from the accused.
DIG (Ropar range) Harcharan Singh Bhullar stated on Monday that Okwudili was actively supplying cocaine to customers in the Mohali area. This arrest marks a major victory in the state government’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking.
On September 12, based on specific intelligence, Inspector Sukhwinder Singh and his team stationed near Preet Karyana store in Kharar’s GTB Colony. Around 11:45 am, a tip-off revealed that Augustine Okwudili was carrying narcotics for delivery. A swift raid led to his arrest and seizure of 255 grams of cocaine.
An FIR under NDPS sections 21, 61, and 85 was filed at City Kharar police station. During a subsequent search, police also found Rs 2 lakh in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
DIG Bhullar added that Okwudili was produced before the Kharar court and remanded to two days of police custody. Upon interrogation, he confessed to hiding more contraband in his scooter, where police recovered 10.25 grams of MDMA pills.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the narcotics were being sold at high prices in elite circles and private parties across Mohali, Chandigarh, and Panchkula.
