Nicole Vaughn Arrested in $38K Elder Fraud Case

Springfield detectives solve vulnerable adult theft

by Sophia Bennett

The Springfield Township Police Department announced Sunday that detectives successfully solved a theft case involving a vulnerable adult in Springfield Township, Ohio.

In December 2025, officers were notified that an elderly individual’s bank accounts had been accessed without authorization, resulting in approximately $38,000 in losses.

Detectives launched an immediate investigation, reviewing financial records, coordinating with banks, conducting interviews, and gathering critical evidence. Their efforts led them to Nicole E. Vaughn, 56, of Akron. Vaughn allegedly admitted to making the unauthorized transactions.

The case was presented to the prosecutor, who authorized multiple felony charges against Vaughn, including forgery, telecommunications fraud, and theft, with enhancements due to the victim’s age. Warrants were issued, and Vaughn was arrested.

The Springfield Township Police Department highlighted the case as an example of the detective bureau’s dedication to protecting vulnerable members of the community and ensuring offenders are held accountable.
