CORNING, Calif. – Two individuals were arrested by the Corning Police Department on Tuesday after a routine traffic stop resulted in the discovery of drugs and a concealed weapon.

At approximately 4:02 p.m., officers pulled over a Chevrolet Tahoe on Highway 99W near the 900 block for expired registration. During the stop, the officers gained consent to search the vehicle.

As officers removed 38-year-old female passenger, Nicole Crouse, a large plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine fell from her jacket. Further inspection revealed Crouse was also carrying a dirk or dagger.

Meanwhile, the male passenger, 43-year-old Salvador Valdovinos, initially provided a false name. However, officers soon identified him and found that he was a previously deported criminal, an aggravated felon, and had active warrants with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Crouse was arrested and booked into the Tehama County Jail on charges of possession for sale of a controlled substance and possession of a dirk or dagger. Valdovinos was transferred to ICE custody after authorities confirmed his true identity.
