LINTON, Ind. (WTHI) — A routine traffic stop in Greene County early Friday morning resulted in the arrest of Nickolas McBride on felony theft charges.
On September 26, the Greene County Sheriff’s Department pulled over a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country van for two infractions: cell phone use while driving and driving without headlights.
During the stop, Deputy James Carpenter and K9 Mater conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle. When K9 Mater alerted to the presence of something suspicious, deputies performed a search of the van.
Inside, officers discovered an unloaded handgun with an altered serial number. The firearm had been reported stolen from Daviess County, prompting the immediate arrest of Nickolas McBride.
He now faces a Level 5 felony theft charge, and the investigation remains ongoing, authorities said.
