LEAGUE CITY, Texas (KTRK) – A 23-year-old man, Nicholas Robert Liggio, has been charged with murder after allegedly killing his father, a beloved teacher and coach in the Clear Creek Independent School District.
The incident unfolded early Friday morning at a residence on Wood Hollow Drive, where officers responded at 5:15 a.m. to reports of a body lying in a driveway. Upon arrival, they discovered David Liggio, 65, with fatal neck injuries.
According to the League City Police Department, officers witnessed a man enter the home and lock the door, prompting a standoff. Tactical units and crisis negotiators used bullhorns to attempt to get the suspect to surrender.
Nearby residents were advised to shelter in place as the situation escalated.
After about an hour, Nicholas escaped the house on foot, leading officers on a brief pursuit. He was ultimately apprehended in a nearby garage on Millers Water Lane.
Nicholas Liggio has been charged with murder and burglary of a building, with his bond set at $180,000. He remains in custody at the League City Jail.
The victim, David Liggio, was a teacher and coach at Westbrook Intermediate School, part of the Clear Lake ISD. The district released a statement mourning his loss and offering support to students and staff.
