In a historic drug bust, the Goa Police Crime Branch seized 4.32 kilograms of cocaine worth Rs43.2 crore from the possession of three individuals, including a husband-wife duo, who attempted to smuggle the drugs hidden in coffee and chocolate packets.
According to SP Rahul Gupta, the police acted on specific intelligence about an imminent drug delivery and carried out a targeted raid. During the operation, they intercepted Nibu Vincent, along with Reshma Wadekar and her husband Manguesh Wadekar from Sada Vasco.
“When we apprehended them, we noticed packets with white powder around the edges, cleverly disguised inside chocolate and coffee packaging,” said SP Gupta. “Using field testing kits, we confirmed the substance to be cocaine.”
This seizure, amounting to Rs43.2 crore, now stands as the largest drug haul in Goa’s history, surpassing the previous record of Rs11.67 crore worth of hydroponically grown weed intercepted just last month.
Authorities believe the cocaine originated from Thailand, continuing a trend where international drug syndicates are using increasingly deceptive methods to transport narcotics into India.
Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full scope of the network involved, and further arrests may follow as police track the source and intended recipients of the shipment.
