Parañaque City, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested eight Vietnamese nationals, including Nguyen Phan Gia Khuong, 29, for overstaying, unauthorized employment, and suspected involvement in online scams targeting foreigners.

Khuong was apprehended on Nov. 11, 2025, at a hotel unit in Parañaque. The identities of the seven other Vietnamese nationals — six men and one woman — have not been released.

The BI stated that Khuong remained in the Philippines beyond his authorized stay and engaged in work and activities not permitted under his visa. He is also reported to have been involved in online scams that victimized foreigners.

During the operation, officers discovered drug paraphernalia and several bullets in another room in the same building. These items have been turned over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for further investigation.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the arrests demonstrate the agency’s firm stance against foreign nationals abusing Philippine hospitality:
“We will not allow individuals who violate our laws or engage in illegal operations to hide in the Philippines.”

Khuong and the seven other Vietnamese nationals are currently detained at the BI’s warden facility pending deportation proceedings.
