Three Newport News men have been sentenced to life in federal prison for their involvement in a string of violent crimes, including five murders, several shootings, and numerous robberies. Ronzel Monte Dixie, 31; Kwaimain Shy’de Redmon, 30; and Meko Montez Brown Jr., 26, were convicted for their roles in at least seven shootings, five murders, four commercial robberies, three drug robberies, and several car thefts between January and November 2017.
The crimes were committed using firearms such as a .22 caliber Uzi-style weapon, a 1911 handgun, and a stolen P9 Kahr 9mm pistol. Their victims included employees at cellphone stores, drug dealers, gas stations, and even a correctional officer.
In one incident on Oct. 16, 2017, Dixie and Redmon followed a man leaving Hoss’s Deli and fatally shot him. Later that night, they attempted to rob a Hampton convenience store, during which one suspect shot the store owner in the face, and Dixie executed an employee by shooting him in the back of the head.
On Nov. 8, 2017, Dixie, Brown, and another individual fatally shot a man and wounded a correctional officer during a robbery attempt. Just two days later, on Nov. 10, 2017, the men stole a Cadillac in Newport News, and during their escape, Brown shot and killed a driver who pursued them. Later that night, Dixie killed a homeless man.
As a result of these heinous crimes, Dixie was sentenced to five consecutive life terms plus 30 years, Redmon received life plus 57 years, and Brown was sentenced to life plus 54 years. These sentences reflect the gravity of their violent actions and their impact on the community.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia worked diligently to bring justice to the victims of these senseless acts. The men’s life sentences serve as a stern reminder of the severe consequences for committing violent crimes.
