FAIRFIELD, N.J. — A 22-year-old Newark resident, Altamir Thornton, and a 17-year-old juvenile were arrested and charged on August 7 with stealing two BMW vehicles in Fairfield. The theft occurred on April 20, 2024, when the suspects reportedly entered a home on Colt Street through a window, stealing cash and a key fob to a 2024 BMW X7M. The X7M, along with a BMW X5 stolen from Piscataway, were later spotted fleeing from police in Cedar Grove.

The investigation, lasting 16 months, led to the identification and arrest of the suspects, who now face charges including burglary, motor vehicle theft, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and conspiracy.

Thornton has a history of high-profile crimes, including involvement in a burglary spree across multiple towns in Bergen County and prior arrests for burglary and violent home invasion with carjacking.
