BRUNSWICK, Maine (WGME) — Police have arrested three individuals from New York in connection with a major retail theft operation in Brunswick. The trio is accused of stealing over-the-counter medications and beauty products from a Hannaford supermarket.
On Wednesday, employees at the Hannaford on Elm Street alerted police after witnessing 29-year-old Marlene Santaella, 24-year-old Angie Cubillos, and 38-year-old Alan Rodriguez taking large quantities of items. Authorities quickly located the suspects in a vehicle near the store.
Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered approximately $32,000 worth of stolen merchandise, including over-the-counter medications and beauty products. Investigators believe the suspects were part of an organized retail theft ring, which had targeted other stores in Maine.
The trio was arrested and charged with theft by receiving stolen property and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer. Rodriguez and Cubillos were also wanted for similar crimes in California and New Jersey, and they face additional charges as fugitives from justice.
Santaella, Cubillos, and Rodriguez were taken to Cumberland County Jail. Rodriguez and Cubillos are being held without bail, while Santaella’s bail was set at $1,500 cash.
