New Waverly Man Arrested for Theft and Drug Charges in Chester

Charles Lee Denton faces multiple felony charges after stolen trailer, motorcycle, and drugs were found in his vehicle

CHESTER, Texas — Tyler County law enforcement made a significant arrest on Sunday, March 23, after locating a stolen trailer and other stolen property. Charles Lee Denton, 41, of New Waverly, was arrested after deputies stopped his truck, which was hauling a lowboy trailer reported stolen from a residence in Polk County.

According to Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford, the stolen trailer was carrying a red and white motorcycle and other items when deputies received the report. Within 15 minutes, law enforcement located the vehicle at FM 1745 and US 287.

Upon stopping Denton’s truck, deputies confirmed that the trailer and its contents matched the description of the stolen property. In addition to the trailer and motorcycle, deputies found 8.7 grams of methamphetamine and a small amount of marijuana during a search of the vehicle.

Denton was arrested and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and driving with an invalid driver’s license. He also faces three felony warrants out of Polk County for possession of a controlled substance, theft, and engaging in organized criminal activity.

Denton’s bond was set at $106,000 by Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Tina Self. He remains in custody, awaiting transfer to the Polk County Jail.

This case highlights the swift response of local law enforcement in apprehending suspects involved in criminal activities. The investigation is ongoing.
