New Haven Woman Mary DeJesse Arrested for Restaurant Burglary

Allegedly stole tip jar containing $10-$20 after breaking in

A New Haven woman was arrested after allegedly breaking into a restaurant and stealing money from a tip jar, police said.

Mary DeJesse, 26, was caught on surveillance video at Chen’s Kitchen on Whalley Avenue around 4 a.m., using a brick to break the door before entering the restaurant.

$20 Theft, $1,000 in Damages
Once inside, DeJesse stole the tip jar, which contained only $10 to $20, before fleeing the scene. However, the damage to the restaurant’s door was nearly $1,000, according to police.

Arrest and Charges
DeJesse was charged with:

Burglary (3rd degree)

Larceny (6th degree)

Criminal mischief (2nd degree)

Her bond was set at $10,000.
