Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s aide, Yonatan Urich, was arrested on Monday as part of the ongoing Qatargate scandal, along with Netanyahu’s other aides, Eli Feldstein and Urich, who were taken in for questioning.
Likud, Netanyahu’s political party, strongly condemned the arrest, calling it “thuggish” and labeling it a political attempt to destabilize the prime minister. The statement further accused the authorities of conducting a “political hunt” to prevent the dismissal of the head of Shin Bet (Israel’s Security Agency).
In a statement, Likud said that the actions taken against Urich were an attempt to extort a false testimony against Netanyahu. The arrest, according to the party, was yet another criminal act by what they called a “panicked legal clique.”
This marks a significant escalation in the investigation, which continues to unfold amid heightened political tensions in Israel.
