A 17-year-old has been sentenced to eight years in prison following a fatal stabbing in Hatfield earlier this year.
Nehemiah McIvor-Murray, of Clarkson Court, Hatfield, was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court after being found guilty of manslaughter. He had earlier pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article. As part of the sentence, the court imposed an additional four years on extended licence.
The court heard that the incident occurred on 23 March 2025 at a disused bus station near Parkhouse Court and Jetliner Way. During an altercation involving two males, a man in his 20s sustained fatal stab wounds. Despite the rapid response of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an investigation by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, McIvor-Murray was arrested at a London hospital on 25 March. Although he denied murder, a jury found him not guilty of that charge in October and instead convicted him of manslaughter.
Detective Chief Inspector Nick Gardner, who led the investigation, said his thoughts remained with the victim’s family as they continue to cope with their loss. He praised their strength throughout the court process and said the sentence reflected the seriousness of the offence.
Welwyn Hatfield Chief Inspector Pete Frost said the incident had a significant impact on the local community and thanked investigators for their work in securing justice.
