In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police Crime Branch dismantled a well-organized racket dealing in counterfeit cancer medication, arresting six individuals in three coordinated raids across Laxmi Nagar, Budh Vihar, and Chandni Chowk.
The accused were allegedly selling unauthorised and unregistered cancer drugs via social media platforms, offering them at steep discounts to desperate patients.
Arrested Individuals:
Neeraj Kumar (23) and Anil Kumar (30) – Arrested in Laxmi Nagar with five counterfeit Opdivo injections.
Dhanesh Sharma (23) and Dheeraj Kumar – Caught in Budh Vihar with Cetuximab, Opdivo, and Lenvatinib vials.
Rohit Bhatti (24) and Jyoti Grover (52) – Nabbed in Chandni Chowk with a large stock of spurious cancer medicines.
According to DCP Vikram Singh, the drugs were confirmed to be unauthorised by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO). Investigators discovered that Naveen Arya, the owner of a Chandni Chowk shop, was the kingpin of the syndicate.
The accused targeted cancer patients who posted appeals in social media groups, offering life-saving drugs at Rs50,000–Rs70,000, far below the genuine market value of Rs1.5–Rs2 lakh. The drugs carried markings like “Not for Sale in India”, making them illegal and potentially dangerous.
Mobile phone analysis revealed the gang’s network of victims, all of whom were approached online. Authorities are working to identify those affected and gather further evidence.
The racket has endangered lives by exploiting vulnerable patients with spurious, ineffective drugs, said police. The fake cancer drugs were seized and sealed as evidence, and further investigation is ongoing.
