A man has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife in a disturbing case of domestic violence in Rungta Colony, Keonjhar district.
The accused, Neel Prasad Sharma, an assistant manager at Rungta Mines, was taken into custody on Tuesday following the death of his wife, Nirmala Sharma, 41.
The incident reportedly occurred late Sunday night or early Monday morning at the couple’s residence in E3/6E quarters of Rungta Colony. Their teenage son, a Class X student, was at home at the time, while their daughter studies in Bhubaneswar.
Sources indicate the couple had been married for 23 years but had a deeply troubled relationship, with Neel Prasad frequently assaulting his wife.
On the night of July 13, Neel allegedly beat Nirmala and pushed her into a wall, causing a serious head injury. Despite her critical condition, he is accused of delaying medical assistance.
She was finally taken to the Barbil Community Health Centre (CHC) around 7:45 am Monday, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Police have launched a detailed investigation, and Sharma is currently in custody as legal proceedings begin.
